Boat Practice Day

Boat Practice Day is exactly as the name suggests—practical! If you’re keen on an educational boat session where we head out on one of our training vessels, you’ve come to the right place. Here, we practice among many other things, navigation, man overboard drills, maneuvering, and safety at sea. This course is offered as an addition to our Inshore Yachtmaster course and is carried out on day 2 during the training. Naturally, Boat Practice Day is also available separately for those who may have already taken a course with us or simply want to learn more about practical boating life.

You’ll get to try driving the boat at low and high speeds in open waterways as well as in tighter harbor areas, along with various means of navigation. Boat Practice Day is also a certificate issued by us after you have completed the session. This certificate is a prerequisite for obtaining a Coastal Yachtmaster.

Once you’re on-site, we’ll board one of Sjöskolan’s vessels: Ruth (Highfield 590) is our simplest motorboat in the fleet and is used extensively in many of our practical exercises, perfect for day navigation. But don’t be fooled by its size—Ruth also has a 140hp Suzuki engine, which means we can also train at higher speeds. Eskil (Arronett 30 Surprise Work) is the “most” boat we have, a “30-foot tank” at sea that can handle just about anything we put it through. Whether we’re doing day practice at low speed or commercial high-speed charter, Eskil is up for the task. Barbro (Boomeranger 950) is like Ruth but bigger and faster. We primarily use Barbro for high-speed training and charters, but it’s not uncommon for her to also go out on practice sessions with us.

We strongly recommend taking Boat Practice Day in conjunction with the Inshore Yachtmaster as this is a perfect opportunity to practice what you’ve learned in theory. If you choose to add Boat Practice Day when you go for the Inshore Yachtmaster, you get a favorable discount of 400 SEK (1,295 SEK in conjunction with the course, 1,695 SEK separately).

COURSE PRICE Course Fee: 1,695 SEK including 6% VAT 1,295 SEK if you attend the Inshore Yachtmaster course with us and conduct the boat practice in conjunction with the course.

A life jacket is provided, but bring sturdy clothes suitable for the weather. Expect to be on an open boat.

EXAMINATION The boat practice is an exercise and not a test. Completed practice is registered digitally. In the NFB Båtintyg app, all your certificates are collected digitally. The app can be purchased in Google Play or the AppStore. If you pass the examination, your new certificate will appear in the app a few days after the course. The app is translated into several languages and is excellent to use abroad. You can also order a plastic card with your certificates.

PREREQUISITES There are no formal prerequisites, but for the best experience of the exercise, we recommend that you have knowledge equivalent to the Inshore Yachtmaster.

SCHEDULE The course runs from 09:00 to 13:00. We start with an hour’s theoretical overview.

LOCATION We share premises with our partner, Marina Läroverket in Stocksund. The address is Stockholmsvägen 34, free parking (don’t forget the parking disc) is available. SL (Stockholm Public Transport) operates Roslagsbanan to Stocksund, the red line of the subway to Danderyds sjukhus, or bus 601 (towards Svalnäs) to the Sjöstigen stop. Welcome!
