Inshore Yachtmaster

The Inshore Yachtmaster, or “Förarintyg” as it is called in the Swedish maritime language, forms the foundation of your boating life! This course is aimed at both beginners who have never been at sea before and experienced seafarers who just lack a formal qualification.

At our school in Stocksund, you receive the certificate after a two-day intensive course which concludes with a test. During the training, you will learn the basics of leisure boating and thus help make the sea safer while becoming more confident in your own abilities. Once the course is completed, you will have skills and knowledge such as analog and digital navigation, basic first aid and safety, as well as proper boat maintenance. Our driven and knowledgeable instructors aim to teach you how to approach the beautiful archipelago in the best possible way.

On-site at Sjöskolan, you get an authentic feeling of maritime life. In Stocksund, our facilities are close to the harbor and the Stockholm archipelago. This gives us the opportunity to apply what we have learned in the classroom easily and realistically.

Currently, there is no legal requirement in Sweden to operate a smaller leisure boat. However, the Inshore Yachtmaster will likely serve as a “driver’s license” at sea if such a requirement is introduced in the future. A good example is that those who already had a Inshore Yachtmaster did not need to take a new test to drive a jet ski when the Jet Ski License was introduced. It’s valuable to know that if you plan to operate a leisure boat larger than 12×4 meters (length x width) where both dimensions are met, a Coastal Yachtmaster is required. It is step two and the usual continuation after the Inshore Yachtmaster. If you book the Inshore Yachtmaster and Coastal Yachtmaster at the same time, you get a discount of 395 SEK. Remember that you must undergo a Boat Practical (Day or Night) to get your Coastal Yachtmaster. The Boat Practical is offered as an option for both training sessions and is conducted during the course.

Abroad, the Inshore Yachtmaster is often required to rent a smaller boat. Check with the rental company before you go to make sure what requirements they have. For larger boats, a Coastal Yachtmaster is required. The International Certificate of Competency (ICC) can also be a good option for you. Read more about the ICC on our website.

COURSE PRICE 2,395 SEK including 25% VAT

COURSE LITERATURE 695 SEK including 6% VAT The course material consists of the course book (The Boat License), practice nautical charts for the Inshore Yachtmaster 616/6163, a transporter, a divider, and a nautical ruler. It’s okay to share the course book if several of you are attending the same course. However, you must have your own set of practice nautical charts and instruments to manage the learning and the exam afterwards.

BOAT PRACTICE DAY 1,295 SEK in conjunction with the course, otherwise 1,695 SEK including 6% VAT We recommend that you choose the practice session. The boat practice is carried out in the morning on day 2, and you then have the chance to practice what you previously learned in the classroom. Our students usually say that this is when the knowledge really sticks. Treat yourself to a taste of boating life!

EXAMINATION 625 SEK including 25% VAT

EXAMINATION Directly after the course, a written examination is conducted. The examination is reviewed individually with each participant afterward. You will be informed of the result immediately. In the NFB Båtintyg app, all your certificates are collected digitally. The app can be purchased in Google Play or the AppStore. If you pass the examination, your new certificate will appear in the app a few days after the course. The app is translated into several languages and is excellent to use abroad. You can also order a plastic card with your certificates.

PREREQUISITES There are no formal prerequisites, but when you take an intensive course, it’s always good to do some reading beforehand. You must be at least 12 years old during the calendar year you take the Inshore Yachtmaster.

SCHEDULE The course runs from 09:00 to 18:00 each day, including the exam.
