Night Boat Practice

Night Boat Practice teach you how to drive a boat in the dark when you can’t see anything. If you’re keen on not having to moor overnight or turn back home because it got dark, then you’ve come to the right place. This course is offered as an addition to our Coastal Yachtmaster course and is performed during the training. Naturally, Night Boat Practice is also available separately for those who may have already taken a course with us or simply want to learn more about practical boating life in the dark.

During the session, you will practice navigating using lighthouse signals, identifying various types of lights on the sea, lanterns, and much more. You’ll also get to test using electronic aids that are perfect for nighttime such as GPS, radar, and AIS. We start with an overview of the boat and its equipment and create a plan for the route we will drive. Afterward, we go out and look for different ways to navigate in the dark.

At the school harbor, our vessels are ready for the practice. Then you will have the chance to either ride a small or large rib, or maybe a fast cabin boat that can handle everything. Regardless, our instructors make the practice equally rewarding and educational. Our boats are equipped with everything imaginable from life rafts to ringing bells, all to give you a realistic and rich training experience.

Night Boat Practice is recommended in combination with the Coastal Yachtmaster and is available as an addition when you take the course. If you have not already done Day Boat Practice, then Night Boat Practice is required to obtain a Coastal Yachtmaster. Thus, you can choose which practice you want to do before taking the Coastal Yachtmaster. When you choose to add Boat Practice to the course, we offer a discount of 400 SEK, the regular price for doing the practice separately is 1,695 SEK.

COURSE PRICE is 1,695 SEK including 6% VAT 1,295 SEK if you take the Coastal Skipper course with us and conduct boat practice in conjunction with the course.

You will be provided with a life jacket but bring appropriate clothes for the weather. Expect to be on an open boat.

COURSE CONTENT Safety briefing Navigation exercises with the help of nautical charts, compass, plotter, lighthouses, lanterns and boueys.

EXAMINATION The boat practice is an exercise and not a test. Completed practice is registered digitally. In the NFB Båtintyg app, all your certificates are collected digitally. The app can be purchased in Google Play or the AppStore. If you pass the examination, your new certificate will appear in the app a few days after the course. The app is translated into several languages and is excellent to use abroad. You can also order a plastic card with your certificates.

PREREQUISITES There are no formal prerequisites, but for the best experience of the exercise, we recommend that you have knowledge equivalent to the Coastal Yachtmaster.

SCHEDULE The session takes about 2-3 hours. We start with a brief theoretical overview and a simple travel plan. The start time varies throughout the year to achieve the best possible darkness; September-March at 19:00, April at 20:00, May-July at 21:00, and August at 20:00.
